Poster for my son's school

My friend Anna Starr and I have been working on a newsletter to promote our youngest sons' school. It's a wonderful preschool that has been a place for my boys to develop and learn some valuable tools for life.
We wanted to create a beautiful image that families could pin up, enjoy and echoes the sensibilities of the school.
I'm very pleased with the outcome.

Stay tuned for the kid's products we are working on together.

Yipee, Spring has sprung. For now at least.
Experimenting today with more illustrations on wood and I can't seem to get enough of it.

Why not add some dog portraits in the mix.

I started working on some new illustrations that will be soon available as limited edition prints on my etsy site.
These are works in progress but coming along nicely I think.

SPRING KIDS' ART CLASSES

On a dreary gray day that reminds me of London what better way to brighten the spirits then a cheery illustration. I'm gearing up for my next round of art classes for kids' at my local children's shop, Still Hip.
The first group of classes has just ended and were a great success. We made great art pieces out of recycled materials and in another class the children developed their own illustrated stories from designing the characters, writing the story and walking away with their own bound book.
I'm introducing two new classes this time. Easy as A to Z will be a course where children illustrate their own alphabet through word association resulting in a bound alphabet book.
And in Roots and Branches children will examine their ancestry through photography and illustration. We will explore three generations of each child's family tree and create a wonderful family album.
Please email me directly for more class information.

On Sunday March 15th at 4.00 I will be signing copies of Tribal Alphabet at Powerhouse in DUMBO, Brooklyn. If you've never been to this bookstore, you must. It has a wonderful selection of kids', art and design books. There's also the huge flea market round the corner so plenty for a fun family afternoon out. Hope to see you there.

I was so happy today to come across this Adidas advertising campaign for the Confederations Cup 2009 being held in South Africa.
As an avid collector of African barber shop signs for the past 15 years, it is such a joy to see an advertising agency such as TBWA merge such a wonderful and traditional art form with a high end sports brand.

Stay tuned for pictures of my own barber shop sign collection .

Hurray. Welcome to my blog.
I have been planning on doing this for a very long time
and who knew that it would be so easy.
My blog will be a place where you see my new work and ideas unfold. I have so many projects on the go that I want to share so will commence by showing some of my favorite new pieces.

Last year was possibly the most exciting time for me in my 15 year illustration career.
My first children's book was published by Umbrage Editions entitled Tribal Alphabet.

2009 so far has been an exciting time for me creatively. At the end of 2008 I was invited by Julia Rothman, fellow illustrator and pattern maker, to participate in a book project that will be published by Chronicle in 2010. Very hush hush, all will be revealed.

I'm also working on a new children's book and product range with my great friend Anna Starr.
And as if one alphabet project isn't enough, I'm in the midst of completing a new series of alphabet prints for kids' rooms. This is also going to become a coloring book and all will be complete by May 1st.

Anyway, enough writing and now for some pictures.

New Alphabet Series

I'm having a lot of fun with these images. It's been great to move away from painting for a while after the hard work (and RSI in my wrist) from creating Tribal Alphabet.
The process of drawing, scanning and layering is very instantaneous and gratifying.
Stay tuned for the rest of the alphabet.
